Cultivation goals

    The School of Environment adheres to the undergraduate education concept of "connotation development and quality prioritization," relying on the general education and "3+3" undergraduate education system of Nanjing University, implementing the new talent cultivation concept of "three elements and four dimensions," facing the major strategic needs of building a beautiful China and ecological civilization construction, constructing a personalized and diversified talent cultivation system. The college aims to cultivate talents who have comprehensive development in morals, knowledge, and practice in the fields of environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental planning and environmental health, with solid professional literacy, outstanding innovative spirit, excellent practical ability, international vision, and are willing to take responsibilities and contribute. After graduation, the students are expected to become the leaders and top-notch innovation and entrepreneurial talents in universities and research institutions, government agencies, environmental engineering design and consulting companies, professional associations, and scientific research service agencies within about five years.

    The School of Environment has three undergraduate majors and one experimental class, namely, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Planning and Management, and Environmental Health Experimental Class. The cultivation goals can be summarized as follows:

    First, students should have excellent morals, establish the core socialist values, have a strong sense of patriotism and social responsibility, possess sound physical and mental health, good professional, scientific and engineering ethics, social responsibility, and sustainable development concepts, and be fully developed in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor aspects.

    Second, students should have broad basic knowledge and grasp a wide range of basic theoretical knowledge related to the environment field, including natural science, social humanities, modern information technology, engineering technology, etc., to support the analysis of complex environmental problems.

    Third, students should have a solid professional literacy, grasp professional knowledge, theories, technologies, and other aspects of the environmental field, and be able to analyze and design solutions to complex environmental problems.

    Fourth, students should have research and innovative capabilities, be able to conduct scientific research on complex environmental problems based on scientific principles and by applying scientific methods, including designing experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, and obtaining reasonable and effective conclusions through information integration.

    Fifth, students should have practical and entrepreneurial abilities, be able to apply professional knowledge and skills to design solutions for environmental problems in practical application scenarios, and possess practical innovation and entrepreneurial skills.

    Sixth, students should have cross-disciplinary innovation capabilities, with a background and perspective in multiple disciplines such as science, engineering, liberal arts, and medicine, and be able to solve complex interdisciplinary environmental problems.

    Seventh, students should have a global vision, understand international cutting-edge knowledge in the environmental field, possess certain international perspectives, and be able to communicate and exchange in a cross-cultural background.
