Direction of the Research

The school of Environment focuses on the needs of national eco-environmental science/technology and industry, and relies on the platforms of the State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control & Resource Reuse, the National Engineering Research Center for Organic Pollution Control and Resource Reuse. It has carried out cutting-edge basic and applied research in the fields of environmental behavior and effects of pollutants, regional/watershed pollution control, wastewater treatment and recycling, environmental planning and management, forming a system of "government, industry, university, research and application" to serve the strategic needs of the country in building an ecological civilization.

In the past five years, the school has won 1 second prize of National Natural Science Award, 2 second prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, 1 second prize of National Technological invention award, and 6 first prizes of Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technological awards. The faculties in the school have been in charge of over 200 research projects (subjects) from National Water Special Project, National Natural Science Foundation, National key Research and Development Program, and International Cooperation, and received ~578 million RMB in scientific research funds. Meanwhile, as the corresponding authors, more than 250 SCI papers have been published in the prestigious journals, such as Nature, Nature Geoscience, Nature Communications, PNAS, ES&T and Water Research, et al. Within the five years, 488 invention patents (including 61 international patents) were authorized. The school ranks the top 1 in the discipline of “environment and ecology” in the world.

The school emphasizes the commercialization of scientific research and social services. Relying on the off-campus industry-university-research cooperation platforms in Yixing, Yancheng, Nanjing and other cities, the school has explored the "discipline-industry" win-win development model, incubated 35 enterprises and served more than 400 enterprises, and formed the ISO sub-committee on Industrial Water Reuse. In addition, the National Technology Standardization Innovation Base (Water Environment Technology and Equipment) was established, leading to the release of 24 ISO and domestic standards, presiding over and participating in the formulation of 15 national and provincial science and technology and industry development strategic plans. The school has made significant contribution to ecological and environmental development of the Yangtze River Delta/Yangtze River Economic Belt.
